query   what is alcoholism
is it understandable
or is it as unscientific
as a silver handbag in a reflective
surface filled with illicit substances
and bemusing anti-messages
from another race of men?

if i am an alcoholic am i a stomach
chewed out by a candy-red fox?          b/c if the other Spartan boys
wiggling their wooden swords want to play
i feel in my own eyes how i look         dead already

query my sum my sum my sum
affluence of circles      i think i’ve always
                        identified with shameless decadence
                        more than anything else
my serum my serum my serum my serum

this aborted Katherine i am     (the name my mother chose
if i had been born elsewise)     a gorge washed away like rouge
am i trying to kill myself or is something beyond me trying to kill itself?
                                    query a pervert Ganesha
query a horn of plenty gifted poorly

                                                a righteous-scorn-mantra
                                                a boozy dove-mask twirl
                                                bloody-teeth-in-the-shower
naked at all the wrong all-decisive
                                                moments of history
                                                tired of waking
                                                tired of not drinking
