In Memoriam

You drank my life away
Yours too

Your stamina remarkable
And torturous both

We joke about
Proof of Life

With our hybrid, college-aged kids
But then, it's not a joke

As I wait for the I'm-still-alive dots
From an imminent text

Do you still have
The will to live?

Just in case
I wrote your eulogy

Alisa R. James is a mother, marketing professional, business leader, and sports super-fan. Over the last few years, her journaling morphed into poetry. She joined the Pittsburgh Poetry Exchange in the fall of 2023. When Alisa isn't working, writing, playing tennis or watching basketball, she's probably visiting her college-aged daughters or walking her dog on the trail.
