the goddess sekhmet lived inside siamese cat lamps atop end tables/ black & white tv sets. pulling energy from the air, transforming it into money/food. fantail goldfishes circled art deco fish bowls disturbing the water, creating invisible whirlpools that swallowed evil. pine scent floated through the houses, purifying the rooms like burning sage. jolly buddhas held court on coffee tables amid starched doilies/bonsai trees. visitors closed their eyes, rubbed the tummies hoping for good luck/prosperity. & wringer washing machines swished back/forth, sudsing clothing spotless, to hang from the teeth of wooden clothespins.
