The Cathedral of Learning

Wherever you stand, you can see it.
Coming from downtown Pittsburgh,
Driving on Forbes Ave,
At dusk, when its lights are on,
It looks like the sphinx of Egypt.

365 paintings of it are exhibited
At the University of Pittsburgh's Alumni hall,
365 unique views,
Painted in 1997 by Spanish artist Felix de la Concha,
One a day.

Imposing itself in the landscape of Pittsburgh,
It looks like a protuberance,
Perhaps that's why Frank Lloyd Wright disliked it.

The Cathedral of Learning was built for educational purpose,
Today, many abandoned churches are converted into something else,
Intuition or Inspiration?
The Cathedral of learning is one of the highest educational
Buildings in the world,
Its architecture reflects the increasing levels of education,
Its dissymmetry suggests different routes to the top.

The Cathedral of Learning stands strong,
In the middle of Oakland,
Between the Allegheny and the Monongahela rivers,
Facing one of the most beautiful skylines of America,
As if it could challenge it, all by itself!
